According to Bloomberg, Apple is set to deliver new AI features this year, powered by its custom-designed chips housed in data centers. It is claimed that these advancements are part of Apple’s broader initiative to integrate state-of-the-art generative AI technologies across its product lineup.

The move marks another major step toward AI for Apple as it employs its proprietary chips within cloud-computing servers to handle complex AI tasks. These servers are designed to support the next wave of AI functionalities anticipated in upcoming Apple devices, showcasing the tech giant’s commitment to leveraging in-house technology for major infrastructure roles.

In-Person and Virtual Conference

September 5th to 6th, 2024 – London

Featuring 200 hours of content, 90 thought leaders and experts, and 40+ workshops and training sessions, Europe 2024 will keep you up-to-date with the latest topics and tools in everything from machine learning to generative AI and more.

The report, citing sources familiar with the development, indicates that these chips share similarities with those used in Apple’s Mac computers. The thing though is that it is likely that more complex AI operations will be managed in the cloud.

Which would leave simpler AI-driven tasks being set to be processed directly on the devices. This dual approach ensures efficient handling of AI functionalities, optimizing performance while maintaining user privacy, and data security, while ensuring user experience is positive.

The same report stated that Apple’s decision to fast-track its AI chip deployment into the cloud was reportedly influenced by the industry-wide excitement generated by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The launch of ChatGPT has ignited an AI frenzy, prompting tech companies worldwide to accelerate their AI initiatives.

Unlike other companies who tend to show off upcoming features and capabilities, Apple, known for its cautious and calculated approach to new technologies, appears to be intensifying its efforts in this domain, as seen with its LLM push last year.

Just this week, Apple unveiled its next-generation chipset, the M4, which will power the new iPad Pro models. This chipset is engineered to support enhanced AI capabilities, underscoring Apple’s ongoing investment in AI technology as a core element of its future product strategy.

In-Person & Virtual Data Science Conference

Only time will tell what will happen once Apple fully pushes out it’s AI features, but if the past is any hint, Apple customers will be happy. But Apple is also likely hoping to push forward due to greater competition against Samsung in the smartphone market. This makes sense as large companies are hoping AI will provide a market edge that can shake up the overall ecosystem.
