It can be hard to know what to get your friends and family for the holidays, but a good book never goes out of style. Even better if the book can help you build new skills to prepare you for success in the coming year. Below, you’ll find a variety of data science books by some of the best and brightest minds in data science and AI, perfect for the data scientist on your list.

Dr. Jon Krohn

Dr. Jon Krohn is an acclaimed author, speaker, instructor, and expert in deep learning. He hosts the podcast SuperDataScience, presents tutorials on his YouTube Channel, which was awarded the 2021 Data Community Content Creator Award for the AI/ML Category, and regularly gives lectures at universities, conferences, and companies.

His bestselling book, Deep Learning Illustrated, offers a visually stunning approach to understanding deep learning. Its full-color illustrations and approachable code help to make the learning process fun and engaging.

 Stefanie Molin

A data scientist and software engineer at Bloomberg, Stefanie Molin is also an author and experienced speaker on Python and Pandas. She is currently working on her master’s degree in computer science with a specialization in machine learning at Georgia Tech University.

Stefanie’s book, Hands-On Data Analysis with Pandas, will teach you how to use pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, and scikit-learn in Python to build machine learning models and analyze data. Hands-On Data Analysis with Pandas is now in its second edition.

Matt Harrison

Author, instructor, and consultant, Matt Harrison has over 20 years of experience working with Python and data. Over the course of his career, he has taught thousands of Python experts and data scientists. In addition to his data science books, Effective Pandas, Illustrated Guide to Python 3, Intermediate Python Programming. Matt offers live and on-demand courses.

Effective Pandas teaches you the best practices for manipulating data with Pandas by condensing years of knowledge and experience into an approachable format.

Illustrated Guide to Python 3 designed to help you jumpstart your programming career, this book will equip you with the tools and knowledge you need to quickly become comfortable with Python.

Intermediate Python Programming will help you learn the intermediate constructs, like iteration, generators, list comprehensions, and more, that will help you think about code from different angles.

Andreas Mueller

Andreas Mueller is currently a lecturer at the Data Science Institute at Columbia University and a Software Carpentry instructor. He has also worked at Amazon and on open source and open science at the NYU Center for Data Science. He is also one of the core developers of the scikit-learn machine learning library.

His book Introduction to Machine Learning with Python: A Guide for Data Scientists will help you discover how to build machine learning solutions using Python and scikit-learn library. Rather than digging into the math behind the algorithms, this book will focus on the practical aspects of using them.

Carl Gold, PhD

Carl Gold, PhD is currently the Director of Machine Learning Implementation at OfferFit.ai. In his previous role as Chief Data Scientist at Zuora, he created the predictive analytics system, Zuora Insights, and helped the company analyze the churn of over 50 organizations.

Using his extensive experience reducing churn as the Chief Data Scientist at Zuora, Carl Gold’s book, Fighting Churn with Data, offers a guide to churn analysis as well as the common issues and pitfalls.
